restoring an old doll...?
I have a Chatty-Kathy doll that my mom gave to my daughter..
my daughter is 18mnths old and loves to brush the dolls hair, but unfortunately the doll has matted, tangled, dry, gross hair. Is there anyway to make it smoother and silkier like when it was purchased? Also, her face is a lot darker than her hands 
how do I get all the crud off her without damaging the material? The legs, face and hands are hard plastic, the body is fabric with a voice box. That's another thing..any ideas where I can find out how to get the voice box fixed? the string pulls, but it's just garbled high-pitched mess that comes out
Any tips where I can find an original outfit too? Other than Ebay..I hate that place..

I once called the Barbie hotline and asked them how to get the dolls hair back to its natural shine and they told me to use liquid fabric softener. Try some flea markets for the clothing. There is one here where they have lots of boxes of doll clothes. I once cleaned a dolls face with liquid bathtub cleaner with bleach. Maybe try it on the back of the neck and see if it works first. Be sure to wash it all off after you use it. The flea markets may have an old Kathy doll that may contain a voice box that works. Personally I would take it out and see what makes it tick. could be just a spring outa place or something simple. Good luck ,hope you can get her back in shape.
