Why are 80's female cartoon characters getting a sexy makeover?
For instance, strawberry shortcake, polly pocket, care bears, my little pony, and rainbow brite of the 80's are being re drawn to give them jailbait sex appeal. Not to mention the newer, sexier dora the explorer and Bratz Dolls. Do you think it sends the wrong message to girls about sexuality and body image? Parents can buy thongs and halter tops for their little kids (presumably for the hot "playdate" with their preschool classmate?) now-a-days... and people wonder why pedophilia is on the rise.
Also, please dont send in your opinion that its okay to sexualize children. Thats really creepy.
Additionally, statistics can be manipulated to say whatever you want them to say- many, many crimes go unreported, making them seem as though its not a problem. Please dont rely on statistics to tell you pedophilia is or is not wrong.
Every generation seems to be more open about sex and sexual behavior. Its nothing new. There is nothing wrong with making some of the original characters more appealing to a younger audience.
And the rates of pedophilia and assaults on minors has actually dropped the past ten years. FBI crime statistics.
