My 18 months old baby still not walking without support?
When he was 1 year he was not able to sit w/o support, so we had to visit the doc. who referred us for Physiotherapy. Within few days of physio he sat without support and slowly he started crawling, then standing on his knee and now hez 18 months he can do the following:
1. he can walking holding the furniture 2. he can climb the sofa without our support 3. he can stand ONLY for 5-8 secs. w/o support 4. he can say mama, dada(very rarely), and repeat what we says. he seems to be very interested in phone and other electronic items then dolls. when he get new gaugets or new things, he don't even respond to his name, he will be so engrossed in that. 5. he rarely get running nose, the sputum(phylum) stores in his thorat and comes out only when he vomits. 6. hez very happy child, always laughing and loves people, esp. kidz...he shows lots of love and affection when he see kidz.
My question is :he had developmental delay - his he suffering from autism??will he be able to walk???
People these days automatically cry autism at the first sign of a delay. The fact of the matter is that based on what you described, he doesn't have any of the signs. My friend's son has autism, and he walked at 10 months. It sounds more like your son has a motor skills delay. I won't speculate as to what he has; leave that up the neurologist who's following your son. By the way, if he's not being seen by a neurologist, it's time to find one.
Anyway, as difficult as it might be, try not to worry. Based on the fact that your son couldn't sit up at a year old, he definitely is behind in motor skills. However, he doesn't sound too far behind, and it sounds like he's making great progress with PT. I have worked with kids who were well over 2 (some were 4 and older) before they took their first steps, and they do everything that the other kids do - play sports, run, climb, etc. The norm for walking is also up to 18 months, so your son really isn't that much behind at all yet.
Also remember that 1 out of 5 young children has a developmental delay. Not nearly that many adults have one. In other words, children with developmental delays are often able to catch up to their peers if they have the right therapy. It sounds like you're doing everything you can to help your son, so it's very possible that he'll catch up.
Again, only a doctor can make a diagnosis, and even the most respected specialist can't say for sure what a child will accomplish. However, if your son can walk while holding onto furniture, stand a little unsupported, and climb well, I'm willing to bet that he will walk independently - and most likely by his second birthday. Hang in there.
